Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is going to be the world's first railway network, which will run entirely on solar energy. DMRC got 27 MW power from the Madhya Pradesh Rewa Solar Power Project. This is the first time that DMRC has got power from any off-site source. So far, solar energy was used only for Metro AC and Lights. Now the solar power will also be used for Metro operating DMRC uses 60% of its electricity through solar energy. But by 2021 DMRC will use solar energy for all its requirements. With this, DMRC can save up to 41 crore rupees. At present DMRC has received 27 MW of power from Rewa Power Plant of Madhya Pradesh, but it will increase to 99 MW soon.
According to the DMRC statement, DMRC will get 345 million units of electricity in 1 year from the Rewa power plant. In the year 2018-19, 1092 MU power was used by Delhi Metro. In addition to Rewa, DMRC makes 28 MW power through its own Rooftop Solar Power Project Plant. All these solar plants are located in Delhi Metro Station, Depot and Colony.
DMRC official said that to start this new initiative, DMRC MD Mangoo Singh traveled from JLN Stadium station to Central Secretariat station on Thursday in a metro train transmitted by Solar Energy.
